Managing together : For managers and their teams

A ground-breaking programme that supports managers and their teams to learn together about building empowering relationships

About this Event

Being a manager or team lead can be overwhelming and isolating. Particularly if someone is thrown into management with little support and with no-one else in the organisation to role model good leadership.

Unlike traditional management training we believe that supporting managers and their team to learn openly and practice ways of working together can radically improve everyone's experiences of work and create more inclusive workplaces.

In our 4-week programme we'll bring a collective of managers/leaders and their teams together to learn how to build an inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive.

What will the programme cover?

Our approach to learning is to hugely experiential. We make sure our participants understand what inclusive leadership feels like through the example we set.

The topics we cover put diversity and inclusion at the centre. We give teams the building blocks they need to leave the programme feeling empowered.

Week 1: Building the foundations of effective working relationships

  • Understand why trust is so important to enable people to thrive in work

  • Explore our biases around who we trust and how to change that when building a diverse team

  • Practice approaches that ensure people in your team feel seen, heard and respected.

Week 2: Giving and receiving feedback

  • Understand different types of feedback at work

  • Explore the power of feedback and the impact no feedback has on a person's ability to do good work

  • Practice techniques for delivering feedback and avoiding defensiveness

Week 3: Transforming conflict

  • Understand what unhealthy or healthy conflict looks like

  • Explore practices which shift power dynamics

  • Practice conversational techniques that will improve your interactions at work

Week 4: Team goals, principles and strengths

  • Unearth the key strengths and values that influence the way we work

  • Identify ways of drawing upon our differences and similarities to achieve shared goals

  • Practice facilitation techniques to build shared principles and goals

Each week our cohort will attend 1 x 90 minute workshop, followed by 1x 60 minute accountability session at the end of the week.

The accountability sessions will ensure participants are putting their learnings into action and reflecting on the outcomes.

What will we gain?

The practical skills and tools that we will share in the group training will provide your managers and team members with the confidence to navigate all sorts of challenges together. You'll also get bespoke support in the form of coaching to help your team with specific goals that are unique to them. In addition you'll get ongoing access to our slack community where you can continue to learn from others.

"It caught me off guard just how good the workshop was. The format allowed me to see, in a way I've not seen before, just how many share very similar concerns and values to mine... and we put a plan of action together that, I feel, will dramatically improve our working environment!" - Front-end web developer

"The content, activities, and the way Tess ran the workshop were fantastic. It was thought-provoking and created an atmosphere of open discussion about some intense topics. Everyone felt comfortable discussing important topics, and the way Tess delivered the content was very compelling." - Head of Design

When do the sessions take place?

Each workshop will take place on a Monday lunchtime via Zoom. They will be recorded if there are any you might miss. The accountability sessions will be scheduled in partnership with the participants.

Who's it for?

This programme focusses on supporting new or struggling managers with building better teams. However the practices and approaches that we'll share are relevant to all work relationships. In addition to learning from our trainers, our exercises will also make space for people in the group to learn from the experience and knowledge of other learners.

Each ticket covers the cost of two or three people as we believe learning together is key to creating change.
