Natasha, from Impact People & Change, shares why she got involved with our work placement pilot and how she provided mutually beneficial work experience to Manny as part of the scheme.

Impact People & Change is an award-winning consultancy who work with organisations and their people to deliver positive social impact.  Our mission and values align perfectly with the aims of the work placement scheme: we support people to be the best they can be through a range of services such as coaching and mentoring, wellbeing support and change and leadership training.

So a little more about us (well, me)…

I’m Natasha and I’m on mission to make a difference to the lives of others.  Having previously run employability programmes in the UK and abroad I firmly believe in the importance of work. Identity, confidence, skills and social interaction are all benefits to an individual of being economically active.  That’s why when I saw the opportunity to host a work placement I knew I just had to get involved!

Working with Manny, who has ambitions to start his own personal training business, was great.  We focused our sessions on social media, starting with some market research on the best platform to showcase the business, and then on developing content.  It was important to me that my work with Manny helped develop skills he’d need for his own business as well as mine. The placement really challenged me to think about how I described the business – what we do and why we exist.  And Manny definitely taught me a lot about hashtags.

It was also great to get to know other small business and feel part of a team as the social element of work is something that can take a hit when you work alone.

By the end of the placement we’d launched the insta-business account: @impactpeoplechange.

I’m delighted Manny made progress too - in his time on placement he secured a shadowing shift at a gym AND a part-time job! Head on over to his blog post to hear from him directly.

I’m excited to continue my involvement when the next cohort joins up – especially in developing the careers support side of the placement.
