How our pilot work placement scheme helped one small business gain new perspectives

We are a socially minded business so as soon as we read the Collaborative Future blog about the work placement scheme, we signed up. Giving a local Nottingham young person an opportunity to gain paid employment and be involved in a development opportunity seemed right up our street. And it was!

We are Organised Fun. A consultancy, project management and training organisation supporting students’ unions and charities in designing and delivering wonderful ‘Student Opportunities’; those fun things that students get up to when they’re not studying - societies, volunteering, sport, media, and fundraising.

As a small business that has been operating for less than a year we aren’t currently in a position to employ anyone, but we have ambitions to grow. Besides being a good way to support young Nottingham talent, the Collaborative Futures placement programme was a chance for us to get a feel for employing someone.

Working with Adell, a graduate with so many ideas for how she can build her own ‘empire’ as a freelancer, gave us a much needed energy boost. We loved working with her on our social media strategy and sharing ideas for how we can be better at engaging with our potential clients. Adell not only gave us some great perspectives but having her involved in Organised Fun for a few days helped us to professionalise our team meeting. As business partners who are also a couple we often struggle to differentiate between work time and home time. Particularly as our primary place of work is our home office (aka spare bedroom!).

On our last day of being involved with the programme we reflected and turned to Twitter to reflect on our learnings. Take a look at quick summary complete with emojis! @organisedfunHQ
